6:46.874 – Prodrive assists in the World’s Fastest Four-Door Electric Car at Nürburgring Nordschleife
On October 28, 2024, a landmark moment for electric vehicle performance took place as Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra Prototype, supported by Prodrive’s manufacturing capabilities, clocked an impressive 6:46.874 lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. This achievement not only shatters the seven-year record for the fastest four-door car but also marks a notable victory for both Chinese engineering and British automotive prowess.
The Nürburgring Nordschleife is celebrated worldwide for its demanding and complex circuit, acting as the ultimate testing ground for vehicle performance and endurance. It’s here that Prodrive’s extensive track experience and engineering provided support in delivering Xiaomi’s vision for the SU7 Ultra Prototype, helping it to set a new benchmark for four-door electric vehicles on this legendary track.
Xiaomi’s commitment to excellence was announced in July 2024, with an ambitious goal of claiming the title of “fastest four-door electric car” within a decade. The project encompasses two phases: the first, completed in October with support from Prodrive’s prototype car engineering; and the second, an upcoming attempt in 2025 to challenge Nürburgring’s production model records.
In the lead-up to this achievement, Xiaomi’s R&D team, with assistance from Prodrive’s engineers, dedicated themselves to rigorous on-site testing, refining every element of vehicle performance, tuning, and aerodynamics. This collaboration reached a new pinnacle with the SU7 Ultra Prototype’s record-setting lap time, showcasing Xiaomi’s bold ambitions while highlighting Prodrive’s capability in the high-stakes world of EV development.
The SU7 Ultra Prototype is driven by Xiaomi’s proprietary V8s super motor in a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system that blends two V8s and one V6s motor. With a combined output of 1,548 PS, this setup enables the SU7 Ultra Prototype to achieve a remarkable 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 1.97 seconds and a top speed exceeding 350 km/h. Prodrive’s contributions to chassis torque vectoring, advanced aerodynamics, and powertrain integration have been helpful in Xiaomi Auto’s breakthrough, supporting the establishment of a new record for four-door electric vehicles.
This achievement is just the start of Xiaomi’s journey at the Nürburgring, with support from Prodrive’s innovative approach. While the SU7 Ultra Prototype has demonstrated a formidable mix of power and precision, Prodrive continues to contribute to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in electric vehicle performance. This collaborative effort promises further advancements in pure electric technology, leveraging the Nürburgring to test, validate, and refine engineering breakthroughs.
